Telegraph: Greek Island Among Europe’s 10 Hidden Seaside Resorts

As the countdown to summer begins, foreign travel guides begin to overflow with information on the most ideal tourist destinations.. The British news agency “Telegraph” presented Europe’s 10 hidden seaside resorts and Kea,  Greece, seems to have enraptured the author of the article who included the island on the list.

The author writes “Now that Athens has moved its airport away from the city and Piraeus, all the more reason to take the back door route to the islands. A morning flight, a short taxi ride to Lavrio and there will be time to look for Byron’s signature on the temple at Cape Sounion before catching the evening boat to Kea, with onward connections to the western Cyclades or Syros, hub of Aegean ferry schedules.”

There is only one flaw in this fine plan for an island-hopping tour. Kea is such a seductive and peaceful place, you may not make it past first base,” highlights the author.

Then the author continues by mentioning a previous article of Telegraph concerning Kea which was posted last summer. The article characterizes the Greek island as a real postmodern island.

  1. This article sums up the cowardice of Greek left. Stick their heads in the sand and pretend they don’t notice the betrayal of our former allies.

Here is another travel article in the modern British based Telegraph…. about what the modern British call “Macedonia” and “ethnic macedonians”. (aka ancient paeonia and mostly ethnic Bulgarians)

Much like the modern British based Guardian, much like the modern British based BBC, much like the modern British based alleged encyclopedia Britannica…. not a single peep about this “minor” detail in years of reporting on what they today frame as “Macedonians”.

“It is no wonder that, in matters of politics in the Balkans, Greece feels
misunderstood. It cannot understand why, after it stood alone with the United
Kingdom against the forces of fascism between 28 October 1940–Ohi day, as it is
still called–and 27 April 1941, when Athens finally fell, its former allies now
appear to be taking the part of forces against which it stood, especially when,
after the second world war, it endured those further four years of civil war to
hold the line against the communist advance to the Aegean. That was done for
the United States and for the United Kingdom especially–the world powers of the
time–and those Governments objected, in 1944, to Tito’s change of the name of
Vardar Banovina.” (House of Commons Hansard Debates for 9 May 1995)

  2. With the outmost respect; Britain was never the allie of Greece.
Britain created Greece as a tool to overcome the Ottoman Empire; and, not much has changed. Britain is still powerful and we have to bow to them.
Britain & the USA created the new Macedonia as a state as well.
If you say a lie often enough it becomes the truth.
The Germans did not need to invade Yugoslavia or Greece as they were of little consequence, only the silly Italian Monkey, Mussolini, did to please his ego.
To entice the Germans into Greece and Yugoslavia, Stalin and Churchill persuaded the communists to overthrow the Yugoslav Government, and, make threadening noises at Germany. This plan included rounding up 10,000 boys from the slums of Australian cities, many who were as young as 14, giving them 10 bullets each and a WW1 rifle, and, march from Thessaloniki towards the border. The people in Thessaloniki were looking at the children in uniform and asked them where their fathers were. The Australian children marched to the border, saw the German tanks come towards them at a quick pace, out of terror they threw their guns away and ran towards the sea. The children were sacrificed.
They did their job. The Germans took troops off the Russian front, and, allowed the Americans and Britain to re supply the Russians.
Millions of Yugoslavs and Greeks died for many reasons. If that was not enough, the Greek army officers who retreated into the mountains were hunted down by the British and executed. They did not want the Greeks to oppose the Germans. They wanted Greece to be occupied.
The British created the long civil war when it should have ended in 1946; and, there were many eyewitness reports of the British supplying the Communists at times of great difficulties. As a USA general said recently “we have interest for turmoil to exist”. The British are not ashamed of anything.
If you read the archive papers they released of the years before the W.W.1 they freely admit to trying to start the war in 1911, instead of 1914. When war did start they were fully armed it was not a surprise. Even Japan was supposed to be occupied by the British Colonies of Asia.
The peasants have heroic versions of history, reading the archives is too boring.
A friends father in the Greek army outside Ankara in 1922, found himself and his comrades under cannon fire from the British and French armies after Turkey agreed to hand over all of the middles east.
Yes the Greeks fought the Italians and the Germans out of silliness, when the French surrendered to save the lives of their people. Do not forget Greece imports 50% of its food; and, when imports stopped, only the Turks send food to avoid a worse death rate by starvation.
    So much for allies.
