Startup Weekend was held for the sixth year in Athens, Greece, this time on the premises of The Athens Cube, with the aim of motivating and helping people from different professional backgrounds to launch a new technological startup within 54 hours.
With the participation of over one hundred aspiring start-uppers, mentors and judges, a total of 24 ideas were initially presented, which led to the formation of twelve business groups.
Fliguin won first place, promising an application which would remove spam from emails. Second place went to YouToones, a platform in which users can create graphic animations.
Third came HangAround, the idea of a mobile application through which users can send their friends direct notice of meetings.
Other ideas, such as an application for linking students with major enterprises for internships (CollegeLink) were also presented.
The prizes included:

  • Free use of development and hosting tools in the cloud, donated by the Greek Innovation Center of the American Technological Company to all participating teams
  • Full scholarships for postgraduate courses and diplomas for the winning teams from the Athens Institute of Technology
  • Seminars on career advice from a job search website, for the winning teams

EMEAgr again supported this year’s Athens Startup Weekend, participating as a media sponsor.
