Tight Security Measures in March 25 School Parade

March 25 School ParadeThe school parade for the celebration of Greek Independence Day in downtown Athens was held Monday under tight security measures. Deputy Minister of Education Symeon Kedikoglou and Athens’ Mayor Giorgos Kaminis watched the parade from the official viewing area. Access to Syntagma Square was controlled by the police and only those with invitation or accreditation were able to attend. About 300 people attended the parade. On the occasion of the parade a protest rally was also held outside of the Ministry of Finance at Syntagma Square, organized by dismissed cleaning employees. The annual military parade on March 25 will also be held under tight security measures. About 3,000 police officers have been deployed to prevent riots. The access to the parade will be granted only by invitation or accreditation while citizens can watch the parade from Voukourestiou Street.
