Taxi Lobby and Govt Agree Troika's Rule Changes

taxiAn agreement was reached between the Greek Minister for DevelopmentĀ Kostis Chatzidakis and the taxi owners’ lobby to implement the promoted changes agreed with the troika to regulations.
The compromise was reached after the government accepted that there will be no provision in the new bill that enables travel agencies and car rental agencies to have rentals with drivers, said the President of the Panhellenic Federation of Taxi Owners, Thimios Lymperopoylos.
However, the provisions that reduce the accepted engine capacity of rental cars with a driver to below 1,500cc remain in the bill, as well as the possibility of extending the license for drivers ofĀ nine-seat vehicles to all owners of tourist accommodation and not only to major tourist units.
Kostis Chatzidakis said in an interview that the new bill will have no impact on taxi owners.
The draft bill provides:

  • Further deregulation for the purchase of trucks for public and private use by removing various restrictions on their activities.
  • Unlocking the potential for hotel units to use rental vehicles with drivers without restriction.
  • The removal of restrictions on the activity of nine-seat vehicles.
