4,000 Lay-Offs to Close Deal With Troika

public sector mobilityGreece’s Administrative Reform Council decided to proceed with a permanent mobility mechanism for public sector employees, at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras at Maximos Mansion Thursday.
The reform initiatives and actions set out by the Greek Ministry of Administrative Reform will be implemented within the next few weeks and will include a public-sector permanent mobility mechanism that will not, according to the ministry, be related to lay-offs of state workers.
Furthermore, during the meeting it was also decided that the existing mobility program would be continued and completed, seeing as there are still 4,000 employees awaiting placement under this specific program in order to reach the 25,000 employee goal that was set by Troika for 2014.
According to Greek news sources, nearly 3,000 employees will come from municipalities through the process of municipal labor mobility, and 1,000 will come from insurance funds.
The organizational schedules and staffing plans for most Greek ministries were also approved at the meeting, and will be included in the Presidential Decrees and submitted to the State Council for approval.
