Poll on EU Election Ranks SYRIZA First, Golden Dawn Third

poll_3A recent poll hints at Greek voters’ intentions for May’s European Parliament election.
The poll on April 1/2 by VPRC sampled the voting intentions for the forthcoming European elections of 1,000 Greek voters, and consequently doesn’t reflect any impact of the hidden video tape that came to light on April 3, showing a Golden Dawn MP and the prime minister’s chief of staff in a politically embarrassing conversation.
The poll gave main opposition party SYRIZA (27.5%) a 2.5 percent lead over New Democracy (25%), with Golden Dawn on 11% and journalist Stavros Theodorakis’ movement “To Potami” with 7.5%.
Communists KKE (7%) and right-wing Independent Greeks ANEL (6%) came in fifth and sixth place, respectively, but the big loser seems to be again PASOK, which despite rebranding itself as ‘Elia’ polled only 5% of the Greek vote. Notably, 8.5% of Greek voters would choose to vote for another party.
Using unweighted data gives different indications. SYRIZA widens the gap on New Democracy to 3.2%, ranking first with 17.2%, followed by 14.7% swing voters and New Democracy with 14%.To Potami garnered 6.9%, Golden Dawn 6.7%, KKE 4.8%, ANEL 3.8%, Elia 2.7%  and DIMAR 1.5%. 5.2% of the sample polled intend not to vote.
Upon being asked about the voting criteria, the vast majority (69%) revealed domestic affairs are top priority.
