Eight Arrests in Two Major Anti-Drug Operations

NarkotikaGreek Police arrested eight people for drug trafficking Monday during two major drug busts in northeast Greece and Attica.
In the first case, two people, a man aged 19 and a woman aged 21, have been arrested after police’s anti-drug squads found 67 kg of heroin buried in a Roma camp in Aspropyrgos, west Attica.
The defendants were allegedly going to sell the drugs in various Greek regions, and according to police, had been using special techniques for the packaging and the standardization of the drugs to protect them underground.
After conducting three excavations in the camp, the police found and seized among others, 67 kg of heroin, 24 g of cocaine, 70 gun cartridges, about 37,000 euros, four vehicles and 17 mobile phones.
The two defendants will go before Athens prosecutors on charges of money laundering and drug-law violations.
In the second case, Greek police arrested six Bulgarians for drug trafficking in the northeastern region of Evros.
The Greek police had been informed about a major drug haul from Turkey and in cooperation with the anti-drug unit and the border police launched an operation to arrest them.
The defendants smuggled about 50 kg of heroin from Turkey to Greece using a fishing boat and then loaded it in two cars bound for Athens. They were arrested on their way to the capital. The police seized drugs, the boat, the two cars and eight mobile phones.
The six Bulgarians will be prosecuted in Alexandroupolis, in northeast Greece, whree police are still looking for other people implicated in the case.
