SYRIZA Leads Euro/Local Elections Poll but ND Gets National Vote

poll2Polls give main opposition SYRIZA a slight lead over New Democracy for the upcoming European and municipal elections, but the ruling coalition senior still has the edge at a national level.
Conducted by ALCO and published in Greek newspaper Proto Thema on Saturday, the poll showed Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) leads New Democracy (ND) by 0.5% for the European elections with 22.3% of the vote. However, voters gave ND a 0.7% lead and 22.2% of the vote when asked how they would vote in a general election.
The results of the poll concerning voter intentions were as follows (general elections/May’s European Parliament and municipal elections):
ND (22.2%/21.8%), SYRIZA (21.5%/22.3%), Golden Dawn (6.7%/7%), Potami (5.3%/7.2%), Elia (4.9%/4.8%), Communist Party of Greece (4.7%/5%), Independent Greeks (3.6%/3.4%), Democratic Left (2.5%/2.2%), Union for the Homeland and the People (1%/1.1%), other parties (5.2%/2.4%), blank vote (2.4%/3.3%), abstention (4.5%/5.2%), undecided (15.5%/11.3%).
The following parties got support in voter intentions for European and local government elections this May, but not at a national level: Ecologists (0.9%), ANTARSYA (0.9%), National Front (0.7 pct), Popular Orthodox Rally (0.5 pct).
Of those taking part in the poll, 41% said preserving political stability was a criterion for their vote in the European elections, while 42% said their intention is to overturn the government.
Regarding who they would trust as prime minister, 32% endorsed current premier Antonis Samaras while 20% preferred SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras but 42% said they trusted no one. On recent developments in the economy, 29% said they vindicated Samaras, 21% said they vindicated Tsipras while half said they did not know.
