13 Year-Old Killed; Sister Critically Injured in Athens Water Park Accident

Athens Water Park Accident
A 13-year-old boy was killed while his 9-year-old sister was seriously injured at a water park in Southern Athens on Sunday, April 27. In a first report Greek police attributed the accident partially to bad weather conditions and human error.
The two children were playing inside a big inflatable ball that was floating on a big pool when a strong wind lifted the ball from the water and smashed it onto a metallic barrier about 30 meters away.
The two children were immediately rushed to “Paidon” hospital, in Athens Greece.  After suffering serious head injuries, the boy was unconscious when he arrived at the hospital. The doctors immediately proceeded with resuscitation efforts, which unfortunately brought no result. The 9 year-old girl was admitted to the ICU where she was diagnosed with severe lung contusion.
The owner and the two managers of the water park have been detained, as authorities check the safety measures. The tragedy occurred as a large part of Greece was hit by strong rain showers and winds over the weekend, which according to meteorologists will continue in the coming week.
