Eurostat: 26.7 Percent of Greeks Unemployed

unemployment_GreeceThe European Union’s statistical service Eurostat published on Friday the recent numbers on the unemployment rates across Europe, revealing that 18.91 million people living within the EU were found to be jobless in March.
Eurostat’s numbers show that the highest unemployment rates are recorded in Greece, with 26.7 percent of the population seeking jobs in January 2014, followed by Spain with 25.3 percent. Cyprus saw the sharpest increase in unemployment up to 17.4 percent from 14.8 percent last year. The lowest rates were recorded in Austria (4.9 percent), Germany (5.1 percent) and Luxembourg (6.1 percent).
Unemployment across the eurozone was 11.8 percent in March, 0.1 percent lower than expected by analysts, while the rate for the whole EU stayed at 10.5 percent. The number of jobless people fell in March by 22,000 within the eurozone and by 66,000 across the wider European Union.
