Five Detainees Bust out of Pyrgos Police Station

Greek policeFive detainees at a police station in Pyrgos, southwestern Greece, managed to escape their holding facility Saturday night by breaking a window with a metal object.
Police are searching for the four Greek Roma inmates and the one Pakistani, and have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspicious escape.
According to initial reports, around midnight the detainees asked the on-duty police officers to be allowed to use the restrooms. The officers granted the request after first securing all outside exits and escape ways, but an incident involving a woman who fainted in the station lobby diverted the attention of the guards, thus providing the detainees with the opportunity to escape by busting through a window with a metal object, and disappearing into the night.
Two police officers on-duty during the time were suspended from active duty until light has been fully shed on the incident.
