European Commission: Coastal Bill is a Memorandum Obligation

european commissionEuropean Commissioner Siim Kallas has reminded the Greek government of its commitment to pass a coastal bill and also institute law on forestry.
Kallas stressed that: “In the fourth review of the second economic adjustment program for Greece, further discussions were conducted concerning measures to improve the use of land for economic development. The Greek government pledged to quickly adopt new legislation regarding coastal zones, and the planning act to rationalize the national spatial planning process.”
He argued that the aim of the second law is to reduce the number of projects that need to be implemented to increase the country’s development, facilitate investment and privatization and give local authorities the power to modify existing projects according to their financial needs.
“Authorities will also introduce a new forestry act to clarify the definition of forests and forest land, and to rationalize the Forestry Service.
Moreover, the government has made progress attracting investment for projects related to land registry and forest maps and ensuring their completion by 2020.
Meanwhile, the Greek government has committed to adopt a secondary legislation which is pending on the environmental license until autumn 2014,” noted Kallas.
