Schauble: Greeks Had Drawn Up 'Grexit' Plan

Dr. Wolfgang SchäubleDisclosures surrounding the story behind the eurozone crisis and the Cannes G20 summit meetings between EU leaders and former Greek prime minister George Papandreou, as revealed recently in London’s Financial Times, seem never to end.
With crucial European Parliament elections due in Greece on Sunday, May 25, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble referred to the famous “Grexit” plan on Greece’s exit from the eurozone and the single European currency, suggesting that a plan was indeed in place, which, however, was drawn up not by Greece’s EU partners but by Greek politicians.
“A Greek politician, about whose democratic feelings I doubt, told me prior to the referendum that it would be better for Greece exiting the euro, but it is not of my business to disclose his name,” the German minister said, and added, “In Greece, a government had drawn up a plan for the country leaving the euro.”
Schauble also mentioned that German officials had examined all scenarios on such a decision, and that several plans were under deliberation, while revealing that similar proposals were also brought by Italian politicians, who had requested for Italy to exit the euro.
Germany’s finance minister repeated his view that the Greek ‘aristocracy’ is responsible for the country’s problems, and that Greece is doing well, while announcing that he is expecting the Greek Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras in Berlin for talks on June 11.
