Thanasis Giannopoulos Quits New Democracy

Thanasis Giannopoulos, a vanquished candidate for central Greece’s regional authority, has quit the New Democracy party.
Mr.Giannopoulos didn’t make it to the second round of the regional elections said on Friday, May 23, “it is totally unnecessary to remain as a member of New Democracy and its institutions after the recent political developments and the policies followed by New Democracy members.”
In his announcement, Thanasis Giannopoulos mentioned “I don’t intend to be politically canonized and I feel obliged to declare my opposition to Antonis Samaras‘ decision to support K. Bakoyannis. I can not neither support him nor recall everything I said during the pre-elections period about this candidate.” and added: “The prime minister used to refer to values and competent politicians. All those are long forgotten now, due to unscrupulous tactics that serve various interests.”
He also accused national and local media of denying to broadcast or publish his political views and messages.
However, he underlines that he is still loyal to the founding action of New Democracy as declared by K.Karamanlis, although he cannot consider himself  a “political follower of Samaras and his New Democracy gang.”
