Posidonia 2014-ShippingToday, June 2, the most prestigious maritime exhibition, Posidonia 2014, open its doors at the Metropolitan Expo Centre, near Athens International Airport. The exhibition is scheduled to last from June 2 to June 6.
Greece’s tradition in seafaring has not only created a very strong shipping sector, but the country’s recent achievements can also provide a guarantee of stability for foreign investors interested in Greece, helping its expansion to ports as far as Asia, Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said on Monday in his address at the annual “Posidonia 2014” international maritime exhibition opening.
Speaking about the importance of the sea to the Greek economy and the business opportunities it has offered over the ages, Samaras said, “We need foreign investment to upgrade our port infrastructures and our land transport networks from there on. We also need investment to renovate our shipyards. We need investment to emerge as a regional energy hub, taking advantage of our energy resources in the sea area around as.”
Referring to the energy sector, the premier noted that “the trend to move to sea-transported energy, mainly gas, from sea-based fields, as well as gas propelled vessels” could use the maritime sector to make transport much more environmentally safe.
“The participation of 1,800 exhibitors from 93 countries and the estimated 19,000 visitors who will attend Posidonia 2014 underlines the importance of this exhibition for the shipping industry. Posidonia 2014 is very important in the finalization of new investments, new product presentations and the discussion of institutional and technological developments that directly affect this industry,” noted the organizers.
Furthermore, the organizers also mentioned that several large shipping companies from the Far East (China, Japan, Korea), as well as companies from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman will be part of this year’s exhibition, seeking investment and partnership opportunities in Greek shipping assets. “It is particularly important that the Greek Forum for Marine Equipment and Exporting ‘HEPHAESTUS’ will also be part of Posodonia.”
