Following in the steps of Chinese couples, Russian couples are also choosing to exchange their vows and celebrate the most beautiful day of their lives on the island of Crete.
Travel agencies, after contacting public and private authorities, show an interest in organizing Russian weddings in Chania. Leading Greek tour operator “Beleon Tours” chose Crete as the perfect place to organize Russian and Ukrainian weddings. Five wedding ceremonies were the grand prize of the competition called “My Greek Wedding” for couples from Russia and Ukraine. The ceremonies took place at the end of May 2014 in Rethimno, one of the biggest cities in Crete.
Leonidas Dimitriadis, president of “Beleon Tours” indicated that there has been a reported increase of interest for weddings in Greece. “The number of the tour packages that have already been booked increased by 30% compared to 2013. During May alone, 23 wedding ceremonies were organized in Crete, Rhodes, Santorini and Kos by our agency,” he stated.
More than 40 journalists and 20 travel agents from abroad attended every wedding ceremony. This is a great way for Greece to promote and strengthen the country’s tourism potential.
The online competition “My Greek Wedding” was held for the second consecutive year and is the biggest international competition that promotes Greece as a wedding destination for couples from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
