Cypriot Businessman Sentenced to 12 Years for Sex with Minor

LefkaritisThe well-known Cypriot businessman Akis Lefkaritis was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Tuesday by the Larnaca District Court for the sexual exploitation of two girls aged 14 and 15. The 35-year-old Nicos Nicolaou, who is also involved in the case, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Lefkaritis admitted that he had sexually exploited the two girls on April 27, 2014. He also admitted to having sex with the 14-year-old girl 18 times between March 2013 and April 2014. Nicolaou pleaded guilty to six charges — four in connection with sexually exploiting a minor between March 2013 and April 2014, and one for corrupting a young woman aged between 13 and 16, on April 27, 2014. He also pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and supplying a 15-year-old girl on the same date.

The two men were arrested on April 30 after the 15-year-old girl reported to the police that Nicolaou had raped and abused her. The girl reported that she had met the 35-year-old man on Facebook and arranged to meet him. She told the police that Nicolaou kidnapped her and took her to his apartment in Larnaca where he raped her and forced her to take drugs. According to the 15-year-old, the second girl was invited to Nicolaou’s apartment and she was asked to be paid for sexual services. Later they were joined by Lefkaritis who also had sex with the two minors.
