World Cup: Jay invited to Brazil to Watch His Idol Giorgios Samaras

Giorgios Samaras is doing a mighty job in the World Cup in Brazil leading Greece to the knockout stage. Back in Scotland though, whilst Giorgios Samaras saw his playing time scatter in FC Celtic last season, he still remains a fan favorite. Jay Beatty, an 11-year-old child with Down’s syndrome, portraits Samaras, or Sami as he’s known in Glascow, as his mentor. Carried onto the pitch of the Celtic Park in May after securing the Scottish Premier League to celebrate with the rest of the players, Jay realized one of his ultimate dreams, that of being a member of the Celtic soccer club.

After his video of celebrating Sami’s penalty kick in injury time in the 2014 World Cup went viral, a goal which elevated the Greek team to the final 16, a facebook page was created titled “Send Jay to Brazil“. Giorgos Sarris, the president of the Greek football federation (Ε.Π.Ο. – Ελληνική Ποδοσφαιρική Ομοσπονδία), agreed to pay the fees for Jay and his parents’ journey to Brazil to watch his idol play for Greece vs Costa Rica in the 2nd stage of the tournament.

Jay has stolen Samaras’ heart to a point where he left a youtube message for him from Brazil, spilling out his emotions of pride and joy he brings to the whole team.

Jay’s parents have not yet responded to the invitation but let’s hope they do, since the young Celtic fan always carries his team’s jersey with the four-leaf clover emblem on it, one that is known to bring prosperity and luck to whoever wears it.
