Sales of Televisions Increased Due to World Cup

tvThe crisis in Greece was defeated by the World Cup. Although many Greeks lack basic goods, they still buy latest technology television sets to watch the World Cup football matches. According to “Ethnos” newspaper, the electronic devices stores have sold at least 150,000 TVs in less than one month.
This impressive rise in TV sales is attributed to the Greeks’ worship of the World Cup and the National Football Team, but also to the economic crisis, which has led  football fans to gather in houses to watch the matches rather than going to cafeterias.
It is estimated that from the beginning of the World Cup on June 12 until this day, about 150,000 to 180,000 television sets have been sold across Greece. Executives of “KOTSOVOLOS“, one of the leading electrical retailers in Greece, claim that televisions sales in the country have increased by 20 to 25%.
It is estimated that TV sales will increase if the National Team passes onto the next phase of the World Cup. It is also expected that TV sales will rise in view of the game in which Greece will face Costa Rica.
The annual sales of television sets are estimated at 550,000 -600,000. However,  last year there was a large increase  in sales due to the launch of new hi-tech televisions in the market and due to the financial crisis, as more and more people not being able to afford to go out for a drink or dinner prefer to meet with their friends at houses to watch a movie or a show on TV.
