Stournaras Sworn in as Bank of Greece Governor

stournaras_bogceremonyFormer Minister of Finances Yannis Stournaras was sworn in as the new Bank of Greece Governor on June 27 replacing the outgoing Governor Giorgos Provopoulos.
The inauguration presided over by the Greek President Karolos Papoulias took place at the Presidential Mansion of Athens.
Serving as finance minister over the past two years until early June, Stournaras held a key role in the austerity and reform program implemented in return for vital bailout aid by international lenders.
Stournaras was unanimously selected by the Greek central bank’s general council and his appointment was ratified by the government.
Speaking to the press after the ceremony, Stournaras noted: “The foundations of a stronger, healthier national economy have been set after a course of successful fiscal consolidation.”
With the new Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis by his side, the new Governor promised to do his best to improve the Greek economy and that he will continue working for Greece’s economic recovery in his new position.
