German Babies Saved By Greek Doctors

Two premature babies of German origin who were born in Greece, gave the chance to Greek doctors to once again prove their professionalism.
About one month ago, when a German neonatologist, who was pregnant, came to Greece for holidays with her husband, no one could tell what would follow. The woman and her husband had visited the Greek island of Naxos to spend some carefree days before giving birth to their twins.
But a complication during pregnancy forced her to give birth earlier than expected. The German neonatologist was immediately transferred from Naxos to Attikon hospital in Athens where she delivered two babies weighing  just one kilogram each.
The infants were admitted for treatment at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.  The Greek doctors did everything they could to keep them alive,  as they were in danger due to their low weight.
Finally, after a month of hospitalization, the two babies overcame risk. Their weight increased and now they can return home, in Germany. The German couple and especially the mother expressed her gratitude to the Greek doctors who saved her babies.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Attikon hospital was out of service for a  long period of time, lacking both equipment and personnel. Just recently three doctors were appointed at this unit, which now has 22 beds for treating premature babies.
