Meet Culture hosted its first Guqin Concert in Athens, Greece, on July 5. Another Guqin concert was also hosted by the same organization on the Greek island of Santorini on July 3.
Guqin, with a history of over 3,000 years, represents China’s foremost musical instrument. Wang Long, a well-known Guqin and Cymbalo performer in China who has already performed across Europe and other countries, was the main artist of the concert.
Ancient Greek Lyre (12 strings) musician Aliki Markantonatou also joined Long on stage for an improvisational performance with both instruments that included Greek folk music.
“It is the first time that these two ancient civilizations meet together in the means of traditional music,” said Eley Yuan of the Meet Culture association.
“This unique concert is an important milestone in cultural exchange between Greece and China,” she added.
