Greeks Less Satisfied with Their Lives

GreeksA Eurobarometer report regarding life in Europe was released on Friday, revealing that only 42% of Greeks are satisfied with their personal situation compared to 58% in autumn 2013. Three quarters of Europeans (75%) appear satisfied with their lives.
According to the survey, conducted from May 31 to June 14, Greeks appear pessimistic about the future of the European Union and its economy, but also firm supporters of the euro. About 56% of Greeks believe that the future of the EU is going to be worst, unlike the Maltese who are the most optimistic in Europe (77%).
The residents of Greece, Bulgaria and Malta claim that their quality of life is “bad” with the Greeks having recorded the largest increase (13%) since the last survey. Most satisfied were the residents of Denmark and Sweden (97%).
The majority of European respondents said that the quality of life was good both throughout the European Union (58%) and their respective countries (56%).
Concerning employment, 62% of Germans said that the employment situation in their country was generally good, while only 2% of respondents in Greece, Portugal and Spain felt that employment was generally good in their countries.
Recession and high unemployment is worrying the Greeks. 56% of people in Greece believe that they will be living in poverty in the next months.
However, 69% of Greeks support the single currency. Increased confidence in the single currency was also recorded in Portugal with 59%, Cyprus with 53% and Lithuania, which is expected to become the 19th member of the Eurozone in 2015, with 50%.
80% of EU citizens are in favor of the euro, while negative trends were recorded in Sweden, Great Britain, the Czech Republic and Denmark.
