Turkish Cypriot Wants to Return Greek Cypriot Property

According to the Turkish Cypriot newspaper Africa, a Turkish Cypriot citizen named Eray Ozer has been searching for the Greek Cypriot owners of the property currently in his possession, to return it to them. He was granted the property by the breakaway regime in occupied Voni and Palekythro.
Ozer not only wants to return the property to the Greek Cypriot owners but has also said that he doesn’t want anything in exchange.

This is the first known incident of a Turkish Cypriot wanting to return his property to the previous Greek Cypriot legal owners . Ozer was born in Epiho village in the occupied part of the island, where he inherited around 60 donums of land (around 80,280 square meters).

However, the inherited property is located within a military zone and has been retained for use by the army for many years. In exchange, Ozer’s family was granted other land in the occupied villages of Voni and Palekythro by the breakaway regime.

Ozer, who was granted the title deeds in 2004, said: “This property is not mine. It was taken by force from its real owners. I cannot reconcile with my honor leaving this property as inheritance to my children.”

The island of Cyprus has been divided into the Turkish Cypriot north and Greek Cypriot south after the Turkish invasion in 1974.
