andreas loverdosThe Greek Minister of Education Andreas Loverdos, after a meeting with membeers of the coalition government, stated that an important decision was taken concerning the funding of Greek universities and technical institutes (TEI).
The meeting was chaired by Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Evangelos Venizelos and Deputy Minister of Finance Christos Staikouras.
Andreas Loverdos noted that Greece should adapt to what applies to western hemisphere countries and especially in the European Union.
Loverdos, referring to the budget cuts for Greek higher education, said that the government is giving universities the ability to follow self-financing methods similar either to EU programs or private initiatives.
The cuts in spending for public universities are estimated at 12-18% and cuts in scientific research at 30%.
