Easy-to-carry Cotton Backgammon 'a la Grecque'

gackgammon a la grecque
Backgammon a la Grecque is a handmade, travel version of the classic game invented by Greeks and is played in the local coffee shops, barber shops and tavernas, with games such as «portes», «plakoto», «fevga» and others. Greeks cal it “tavli.”
Today, men and women of all ages, enjoy tavli on-the-go. A modern version of an all-time classic. It has Mediterranean flavor, salty taste, carefree spirit, Greek white colors and is sold at the Cycladic Art Museum gift shop.
Under the Greek White label, Sandy Tsantaki and Eleni Koulouvatou came up with the idea and the design for an on-the-go backgammon set made of beautiful Greek fabrics. “Backgammon a la Grecque” is handcrafted and is an ideal travel accessory, elevating the humble tavli with an attractive new look.
The designers advocate a minimalist version of the popular board game. Made of 100% cotton, the backgammon set includes 30 playing pieces, three sets of dice and a doubling cube. It is easy to carry and, more importantly, will not disturb fellow sunbathers on the beach with the clatter of dice and pieces.
Greek White hopes to liberate non-utilitarian objects from their folksy look and the new backgammon set is a fine example of this effort. Moreover, tourists will appreciate bigger or smaller objects that will serve as souvenirs from their trip to Greece but they differ because of their originality and creativity. Easy to carry objects like this cotton “backgammon a la Grecque” is a good start!
