Greece Wins Silver Medal in European Swimming Championships

Greece's Gianniotis, Araouzou and Fokaidis show their silver medal after the team event 5km open water race during the World Swimming Championships in BarcelonaGreece won the silver medal in the group 5 kilometer open sea competition at the 32nd LEN European Swimming Championships 2014 in Berlin, Germany.
Europe’s best athletes competed at breathtaking races, while Greece managed to earn a silver medal. Spiros Gianniotis, Antonis Fokaides and Kelly Araouzou finished the 5 kilometer open sea race team event in 56 minutes and 5.5 seconds, just behind the Dutch team that finished first in 55 minutes and 47.8 seconds. Germany took third place with 56 minutes and 14.8 seconds.
This is Greece’s third consecutive group medal, after a gold in 2010 and a silver in 2012.
Prime Minister Antonis Samaras sent a message, congratulating the three Greek athletes, saying “You proved that hard work and team work wins in the end. All Greeks feel proud of you; thank you.”
