Greek Economy and Debt Dominate Samaras-Moscovici Meeting

Moscovici_SamarasGreek economy and the major unresolved issues, such as managing the country’s debt, dominated a meeting on Wednesday between Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and Pierre Moscovici, the former French Finance Minister that France has currently put forward as its representative in the upcoming European Commission. Moscovici is considered one of the key candidates for the post of Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner.
During their meeting in Athens, Samaras presented the government’s priorities for the future of Greece’s economy and the actions that must be taken in short order to bolster growth and correct injustice. According to government sources, Athens supports Moscovici’s candidacy for the Economic and Monetary Affairs position currently held by Olli Rehn.
Following his meeting with Moscovici, Samaras will later chair a meeting with the ministers that will be travelling to Paris for the Greek government’s talks with the EU-IMF Troika, also to be attended by government Vice President and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos.
