Luxurious Yachts of Qatari Emir Impress Lefkada Residents

kataraThe two luxurious yachts of Qatari Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, which arrived at the beach of Ai Giannis in the Greek island of Lefkada on Wednesday afternoon, left the bathers speechless.
According to lefkadapress.gr, “Katara”, one of the two yachts of the 62 year-old Emir, is one of the world’s largest yachts. Al-Thani spends most of his vacation in Greece since he is the owner of Oxia island and he has many times visited the Ionian islands.
The luxury yacht of the Emir of Qatar is 124 meters long and 19 meters wide. It has seven decks, two helidecks, a swimming pool, jacuzzi and a submarine that can dive to a depth of 100 meters.
According to Forbes magazine, the Emir of Qatar is placed seventh in the list with the richer members of royal families in the world. His personal fortune exceeds two billion U.S. dollars while he has made significant investments in every corner of the planet.
He seized power with a coup d’etat in 1995, dethroning his father. He is considered one of the most liberal Arab leaders and has assigned to the second of his three wives responsibilities concerning educational and children’s rights issues.
Being a former athlete himself, he has played an active role in the development of sports in Qatar while his main wish is an Olympic medal to his country.
He is considered one of the main sponsors of Al Jazeera while many claim that he is the network’s real owner, which he refuses. However, he has admitted that he has donated huge sums of money when necessary. The United States have asked him to shut down the network many times, especially when it was hosting Osama bin Laden interviews.
The Emir has three wifes and 24 children, of which 11 sons and 13 daughters.
