Former PASOK President and Prime Minister Giorgos Papandreou and current Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Evangelos Venizelos attended the event marking the party’s 40th anniversary. The main event, on September 3 at Zappeion Hall, will not be attended by Papandreou, who is going to be out of Athens.
The event will showcase a photo exhibition organized by the Andreas G. Papandreou Foundation.
There had been fears that Papandreou would host a separate event and this would have rekindled tension within the party. Late on Thursday, an agreement was reached.
People that had gathered at the event shouted slogans such as “PASOK is here, strong and united”, “Pasok is here, with George as its leader”.
Right before the event, former Parliament President Filippos Petsalnikos and former Finance Minister Giorgos Papakonstantinou received applauds by the gathered crowd and the latter held a small talk with Andreas Papandreou’s former secretary Aggela Kokola.
