Justice Minister: Who is Threatening You Ms Lagarde?

Athanasiou_LagardeGreek Justice Minister Charalambos Athanasiou has sent an official request for additional information from Christine Lagarde regarding the nature of the death threats she claimed to have received in her recent interview with the Financial Times.
In a wide-ranging interview, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief is said to have ‘muttered’ “I better not say too much because, you know, when I have talked about Greece and its taxes before, I got death threats and we had to increase security… But is the shipping industry really paying its taxes? Are others? I don’t think so.”
The list of over 2,000 names of potential Greek tax evaders was passed on to the Greek authorities in 2010 by Lagarde, while she was the French Finance Minister.
The article, although refers to this comment as an “off-hand remark,” has undoubtedly sent shockwaves to Greece where the issue of the so-called Lagarde List is still pending.
The Minister’s move to ask for more information regarding the nature of the alleged death threats could lead the way for launching an investigation by Greek officials.
