Troika to Come to Greece As Scheduled

troikaRefuting reports that the Troika’s visits to Greece would be postponed, the Greek Finance Ministry announced today that the appointments will be held as scheduled.
Troika officials representing the European Union, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund are expected in AthensĀ on September 30. The visit comes as part of the Troika’s broader mission of overseeing the Greek bailout program.
Wednesday, Greek Finance Minister Gikas HardouvelisĀ is expected to participate in a teleconference with Troika officials.
Greece’s own financeĀ officials will meet on Wednesday to discuss what issues will be brought upĀ with the Troika. Although the official Troika visit to Athens is expected on the 30th, several representatives are expected in the Greek capital this week.
The Troika will focus on the state budget,Ā the draft of which willĀ be filed in the Greek ParliamentĀ on October 6. Talks in Athens will be briefly interrupted,Ā as the IMF officials and the Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis will have to go to Washington, DC for the IMF’s annual meeting on October 10-12. They will also participate at the Eurogroup Council on October 13 before returning to Athens in mid-October.
