One in Three Greeks Indebted

tax officeThe two adjustments for debt repayment to the Greek state have brought minimum proceeds since, according to the General Secretariat of Public Revenue, one in three Greeks owes money to the state.
The new debts from January 1, 2013, until the end of August 2014 reached 15,884 billion euros.
The number of citizens who can settle their debts is small, with the total amount of debts settled and repaid until August 2014 reaching 982.5 million euros.
Figures from the General Secretariat of Public Revenue show that approximately 2.2 million citizens, out of 2.45 million, owe up to 5,000 euros, while approximately 50 tax payers owe the Greek state over 1.5 million euros.
Meanwhile, figures from Greece’s Ministry of Finance show that in the July – September 2014 period, ​​24,079 audits in businesses were carried out. The Greek investigating authorities found a total of 8,309 offenses in 3,393 businesses, the majority of which are related to non-issuance of invoices.
