Photocopies of a medical report bearing the name of a local woman diagnosed with AIDS appeared on walls throughout the center of Lesbos, capital of the island of Mytilene in the northeast Aegean Sea. According to local media reports, hundreds of additional photocopies with the name of the woman were found scattered throughout the streets of the town.
According to a news report on lesvosnewsnet.com quoting the local Empros newspaper, residents of Lesbos were dumbfounded on Wednesday and Thursday when they saw the posters flung throughout their town.
Locals were shocked and angered when they had to clear hundreds of photocopies scattered all throughout the central Lesbos plateia. This probably marks the first time that such an act of castigation was carried out against someone in Greece.
The perpetrators printed the woman’s diagnosis as issued from an Athens hospital. The act of copying a medical diagnosis and publishing it is punishable by law – as is the clear invasion of privacy pertaining to the case.
