seismos660_1A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck Western Greece early Saturday, the country’s earthquake observatory said, with no reports of victims or major damage.
The tremor struck at 3:16 am (0016 GMT), with its epicentre 20 kilometres (12 miles) from the western town of Arta and 249 kilometres northeast of the capital Athens, according to the observatory.
Earthquakes have historically caused widespread damage not only in Crete, but also across central and southern Greece, Cyprus, Sicily and other neighboring regions.
In January, a series of strong earthquakes on the western island of Kefalonia damaged hundreds of homes and injured more than a dozen people.
