Compensation Offered After Flood Destruction

antonis samarasGreek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras ordered the Finance Ministry to immediately release the funds needed for each municipality that was affected by yesterday’s floods. The Prime Minister had a meeting late on Friday, October 24 at the Business Centre of Civil Protection to address the destruction caused by severe weather in Attica.
According to Antonis Samaras, anyone who suffered losses will receive compensation as soon as possible. “On Saturday morning municipalities will start making a detailed inventory of losses and destruction, which will be completed on Monday,” he said. “The Greek Finance Ministry has been given an order to immediately release the money necessary for each affected municipality on Monday. Therefore, anyone who suffered losses will be compensated as quickly as possible,” he added.
In addition, the Prime Minister said that he is expecting the Greek services responsible for flood control in the affected areas to be held accountable for their poor response to the situation. Every year, Athens is faced with flooding in areas such as Peristeri, Ilion, Roupaki, Kokkinia and Menidi.
