4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Northern Peloponnese

Tremor Hits Northern PeloponneseA 4.8-magnitude earthquake shook the cities of Patras, Aegion, Nafpaktos and other areas of the northern Peloponnese at 7:10pm on Friday evening, according to Athens’ Geodynamic Institute.
The tremor occurred at a depth of 5 km and its epicenter is located in the western Corinthian Gulf.
Earthquakes have historically caused widespread damage across central and southern Greece, Cyprus, Sicily and other neighboring regions. In January, a series of strong earthquakes on the island of Kefalonia damaged hundreds of homes and injured more than a dozen people.
