His firm belief that Greek main opposition SYRIZA and its leader Alexis Tsipras are devoted to the country’s participation in the Eurozone, voiced the former European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, Olli Rehn, while answering questions over the “fear campaign against SYRIZA’s possible electoral victory in Greece.”

While making use of the “blue card question” procedure, SYRIZA MEP Dimitris Papadimoulis, straight after the completion of Rehn’s speech, addressed him the following question: “These days Mr. Rehn is starting to develop a scaremongering and a propaganda that SYRIZA’s victory on the possible upcoming elections in Greece would mean the exit of Greece from the Eurozone and a major disaster for the Eurozone itself. How do you comment on this campaign of fear?”

The Finish former Commissioner replied to Papadimoulis that “Greece had some difficulties in the past, now they rise again. I have no intention of intervening in your internal policy and your internal politics, but I understand that SYRIZA and Mr. Tsipras are committed to the participation of Greece in the Eurozone. I think that counts and this is the key element. I also understand that the debt burden is huge, therefore, Greece should proceed with reforms, looking at what it will do with the loans that are also pending, not necessarily drawing from funds.”
