Greek Super League champions Olympiakos Piraeus secured a place in the Greek football cup semi final stage after a dramatic away victory over Football League (second division) side AEK Athens at the Olympic Stadium (OAKA), Greece . The winning goal for Olympaikos was scored at 89′ by Argentinian forward Franko Jara.

Straight after the winning goal, the match was interrupted by the referee due to AEK fans’ response to Jara’s provocative celebrations (he took off his kit and knocked down the corner flag) and their invasion to the football field. The goal scored by the 26-year-old caused AEK fans’ reaction, as a few seconds earlier the ball was out of play but the referee did not whistle and Ibrahim Afellay passed inside AEK’s box.

jaraIt should be noted that prior to the match, 70,000 tickets have been sold out and AEK supporters created a unique atmosphere in what was seen as a derby from the past, since AEK has not faced fierce rivals Olympiakos for more than two years, as it was relegated to the country’s third division in the 2012-2013 season.

The first leg between the two teams, held at the Karaiskakis stadium on February 11, resulted in an 1-1 draw, giving trophy-thirsty AEK a slight lead for the qualification to the semi final, although this did not happen. Iraklis and Apollon Smyrni have already secured their participation to the semi finals, along with Skoda Xanthi.
