Varoufakis-Lapavitsas Continue Clever Quotes

var-lapGreek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis and SYRIZA MP and economics professor Costas Lapavitsas continued with clever quotes on the Greek debt issue, even though the former is in favor of the euro zone while the latter insists on a bloodless exit.
Speaking on Italian television channel La7, Varoufakis said that Greece is not asking for money but for a better macroeconomics program for the whole of Europe. The Greek minister actually quoted The Beatles, saying that Greece doesn’t ask for money because “money can’t buy me love.”
Varoufakis said that the problem with the euro zone is that it was designed incorrectly from the start. “The structuring of the euro zone is the cause of the European crisis. It is not the fault of the people, of the countries, or of the institutions. The euro zone was designed incorrectly, but now we have started to design it the right way,” he said.
“I am not asking for money. I’m asking for a rational upgrade of the microeconomics program for the entire Europe, and especially Greece. Money, of course, is part of the request, but money isn’t everything,” Varoufakis said.
On the other side of the euro zone fence, Lapavitsas said that, “It’s time for Greece and its European partners to realize that they are flogging a dead horse.”
The outspoken SYRIZA MP repeated his belief that Greece’s debt problem cannot be solved as long as the country belongs in the common currency bloc. A great proponent of the return to the drachma, Lapavitsas proposed that the only negotiation between Greece and Europe from now on should be on a painless Grexit.
Speaking in a joint interview with Berlin newspaper Der Tagesspiegel and ThePressProject International, Lapavitsas said that SYRIZA will either keep its pre-election promises or accept what international lenders demand. There is no middle ground.
Lapavitsas said that Greece must leave the failed euro zone. SYRIZA is a radical party and must fulfill its obligations to voters. That cannot be done within the confines of the euro zone because Europe will not allow it.
Thereby, the SYRIZA MP concluded, that there should be a consensus that Greece must exit the euro zone. It will be for the benefit of both sides. The Grexit should be done as painlessly as possible and leaving the common currency doesn’t mean that Greece should leave the European Union as well.
