Greek Finance Ministry: We'll Provide Technical Levels With the Requested Data

In what can only be described as a “u turn” in its stance, the Greek Finance Ministry released a statement earlier today welcoming cooperation with the technical levels representing the country’s international creditors; the European Commission (EC), the European Central Bank (ECB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). According to the statement, Athens is ready to provide its partners’ representatives with all data they need regarding the new SYRIZA-led government’s reforms program.

The Greek media suggests that the statement is written by the Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis himself, in an attempt to ease the ongoing war of words with European officials and reverse the negative climate that has been created toward Greece. Reportedly, the Greek side — following Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ meeting yesterday with European leaders — wants to display good will regarding the reforms list and finally present them to the institutions representatives when this is finally ready.

The Greek Finance Ministry’s full statement:

We have learned that the technical teams are preparing a detailed list of their requirements for fact-finding about the operations of the Greek government and plans for ongoing reforms. This is a constructive development, which the Ministry of Finance welcomes, as it will bring clarity to the Brussels Group deliberations and allow them to proceed in an orderly and effective way, consistent with the February 20th agreements.

We look forward to receiving the document when it is ready, and will review and respond to it in the same constructive spirit.
