German Newspaper's Friendly Welcome to Greek Prime Minister

bild-aurio-ellinikaGerman newspaper Bild published an unprecedented friendly welcome to Greece and its Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, ahead of today’s meeting between the Greek prime minister and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin.
With the headline “Welcome to Berlin, Mr. Tsipras” written in Greek and accompanied by a big picture of the Greek premier, along with an article entitled “50 reasons why Greeks are dear to us (Germans),” the tabloid was covered with the blue and white colors of Greece. Even the name of the newspaper and story headlines were written in Greek characters in one half of the front page.
It is ironic that up until a few days ago Bild had hosted the most anti-Greek articles and overall had expressed sentiments against Greece and the new leftist government.
Bild is the best-selling non-Asian newspaper and ranks sixth in circulation worldwide. It has been described as “notorious for its mix of gossip, inflammatory language, and sensationalism.”
