Olympiakos’ 1-1 tie against Apollon Athinon was enough to seal the move to the final where they’ll meet Skoda Ksanthi who surpassed Iraklis Thessalonikis with a 0-0 home draw. Stepping on this event, we gathered 10 fun facts about the finalists.

  1. In 47 attempts in the past, Skoda Ksanthi has never made it past the semi-finals.
  2. Olympiakos is the tournament’s most successful club with 26 trophy wins.
  3. Outside of clubs from Athens and Thessaloniki, only six (Asteras Tripolis, Pierikos, Larissa, OFI, Doxa Dramas and Kastoria) have made it to the final. Skoda Ksanthi will mark the seventh.
  4. Olympiakos is the only team to have won the trophy five years in a row (1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961)
  5. Silva Kleyton, Tasos Papazoglou and Pantelis Kapetanos are the only three of Ksanthi’s players to have experienced a Greek final before. The first two have won it twice, the latter hasn’t yet.
  6. This is the 22nd time the Olympic Stadium of Athens will be holding the final. Olympiakos made it there 9 times and won 5 of them.
  7. For the 2015 Greek Cup, Skoda Ksanthi won 5 games, tied 3 and lost 1 scoring 11 goals while conceding 4. Olympiakos came out of 6 games victorious and drew 3 with 21-3 goals.
  8. A total of 8 players left Ksanthi to join Olympiakos and eventually managed to win the Greek Cup. Those were Vasilis Torosidis, Ilias Talikriadis, Thanassis Kostoulas, Luciano De Souza, Stelios Venetidis, Paraskevas Antzas, Spiros Vallas and Christos Patsatzoglou.
  9. In the last 30 games between the two teams, Olympiakos has walked away 22 times with a win, 5 times there was a tie and 3 times Skoda Ksanthi was the one to celebrate.
  10. If Olympiakos wins its 27th title, that will make the club Europe’s 4th most successful one concerning domestic Cups. Linfield from Ireland leads the list with 42 trophies followed by Celtic (36) and Rangers (33) from Scotland and Austria Wien with 27.
