Greek Bailout Talks to Stretch into the Weekend

tsipras-708_18The bailout talks between Greece and its creditors will continue over the weekend, but it appears that Athens has no intention of moving forward with the multi-bill which would bring new measures on taxation, if the next bailout installment is not unlocked.
The creditors have for three months been trying to get Greece to agree to a list of budget measures before they accept to pay it the remaining 7.2 billion euros ($8 billion) installment of its bailout program, noted AFP
Furthermore, the Greek government is taking small and careful steps in order to reach an agreement on Sunday, May 3 and schedule an emergency Eurogroup meeting on Monday, May 4 to pave the way for the country’s liquidity.
Athens has received clear messages to implement pension cuts. However, the government insists that it will implement measures to support the Greek economy but pension cuts will not be one of them.
Furthermore, the Greek government is turning to the ELA for funding in order to overcome its immediate problems and then present the measures it agreed upon with its partners before the Parliament.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras appeared optimistic about the bailout talks, during the Cabinet meeting which took place on Thursday, April 30.
Meanwhile, government officials spoke of significant progress in the negotiations and noted that they are expecting an agreement in the coming days. At this point, however, there seems to be a disagreement with Brussels as the European officials clearly stated that only voted laws will be accepted.
