Prostitution Thrives During Greek Crisis

The number of male and female prostitutes in Greece has been increasing during the Greek crisis a Panteion University study revealed. While the prices have fallen significantly, the turnover from prostitution, from late 2012 until today, reached between 600 and 620 million euros.

The total number of prostitutes across Greece reaches approximately 18,500, while 13,000 to 14,000 of these women and men are foreigners who have fallen victims to trafficking rings.

Conducted by Grigoris Lazos, a Department of Sociology Professor at Panteion University, the study was presented at a workshop organized by the General Secretariat for Gender Equality in cooperation with the Greek NGO “PRAKSIS,” under the auspices of the National Rapporteur against Human Trafficking’s Office.

It was estimated that in 2012 there were 17,000 female prostitutes in Athens while in 2014 the number rose to 18,500. The number of customers in Athens amounts to approximately 550,000.

As far as prices go, there has been a significant drop, after Greece was hit by the economic crisis. Specifically, compared to 2009 the study estimates that prices have fallen by 20% to 50%. Most female prostitutes get paid between 5 and 30 euros. However, the researchers were shocked to find that many prostitutes request even less that 5 euros, a fact that reflects their economic situation.

  1. The Greek Navy, airforce and army were designed, armed and trained to defend Greece against the Turkish army which is one of the biggest, well equipped and most powerful armies in NATO. The Greek airforce regularly chases Turkish airforce jets out of Greek airspace, the Hellenic navy and coastguard pursue Turkish warships that enter Greek waters, they are more than capable of pursueing and arresting people smugglers. Mandatory 40 year jail sentences for people smugglers as proposed by Golden Dawn will have the required deterrent effect. Furthermore few 3rd world illegals will seek to enter a Golden Dawn governed Greece due to Golden Dawns well known uncompromising stance on dealing with illegal immigration, and also because of the slander propagated by the mass media depicting Golden Dawn as acting violently towards illegal immigrants.

Your defeatist, nothing can be done attitude isn’t shared by Golden Dawn. Golden Dawn is filled with energetic optimism and enthusiasm for solving the problems that face Greek national security, the Greek economy, as well as social issues, and that is why the Hellenic people will soon grant Golden Dawn the honour of governing Greece.
A Golden Dawn of Hellenism approaches.

  2. details please

we can start with ELA funding and what happens to bank deposits when they lose 80% overnight and people can’t take their money out of the banks.

  3. They are not at their full capacity because there is not enough money. This isn’t only about the incredible capabilities of the Greek military men, but a numbers game both in strength and $ and being able to handle the illegal problem after one has captured the smugglers.

i know a lot can be done, but NOTHING on Golden Dawn’s platform can fix the economy. The only thing that can fix the economy is capitalism, the only system that has worked, and Golden Dawn is of a socialist/fascist economic ideology.

you are all talk with no details or concepts of how modern day economies work.

Golden Dawn will NEVER come to power. you have reached your peak. To come to power one needs at least 40% of the vote and/or a military coup, and we know that the military coup is in your plans. Good luck with that.

  4. Very well said. It is exactly what will happen. It is in fact the worst fear of the current political-media establishment in Greece, of the troika, and of Washington DC. It is their nightmare scenario. Golden Dawn is close to making their nightmare a reality.

  5. i agree with you but it has to be done orderly to at the least protest deposits and not shock the system all at once

  6. most illegals now come from the sea not the land border, and even before that most illegals are from Albania then Iraq (war zone)

New Democracy failed to realize this when they built the fence, touted around like they actually did something which they didn’t and completely ignored the sea route and negotiating with Turkey on this matter.

nearly all Greeks have served. what’s your point

did you not see what I wrote above, this is not a capability issue in terms of talent. The Greek military is one of the best in the world, there is no doubt about that. This is a capability issue in terms of numbers and $. it costs $ to defend such a large border, staff the military, and run a judiciary, and detention centers, and take illegals back to the port of entry etc etc

minefields – wow you’re a genius (sea crossing issues aside). what’s next on your UN rights and code of law violation list. what about the Thracian residents?

these are 100% war refugees. Have you not seen what is happening in Syria, which Turkey shares a border with in addition with Iraq. that “economic migrant” line is just an excuse to justify your lack of care for humans and escape refugee obligations. Good thing most of the Greek population, like the people in Rhodes and Sfakia (ALL MILITARY MEN) who recently rescued the illegals who had crashed onto their shores, are not like you.
