Greek Auto Market Reacts Positively to Car Taxation Plans

Greek Car Market Greek auto market officials reacted positively to a Finance Ministry plan to change car taxation, however, officials said the market should wait for the Ministry’s final proposals to judge the result.
Market officials said a plan to link car taxation to the car’s pre-tax retail price, instead to its power under the current system, is a fair measure, while they agreed with plans to change current living standard criteria for the use of cars -considered in some cases to be excessive- and to plans offering exemptions to circulation fees for cars using the latest environmental-friendly technology and fuel.
The Greek Finance Ministry plan envisages linking registration fees with pre-tax retail price of a car, which means higher registration fees for expensive cars and lower fees for cheaper cars.
Another Ministry plan to introduce an environment fee for older technology cars -aged more than 20 years- is expected to have a positive impact on the auto market as consumers will seek to replace their cars with new, modern technology vehicles.
