Talks between Athens and its international creditors over a profitable bailout plan that will keep Greece from potential bankruptcy and an exit from the euro are still at a stalemate, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said during a conference organized by his conservative CDU party on Tuesday, a day after he met with Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis in Berlin.
Schaeuble disclosed that his working relations with his Greek counterpart are “ok,” underlining though that Varoufakis is “hard work.”
Although Schaeuble was not asked about Greece’s recent initiative to hand institutions a new proposal in an effort to unlock further financial aid, European officials have hastened to characterize the proposal as “insufficient” to reach an agreement.
Furthermore, Schaeuble shared the same opinion with Finnish Finance Minister Alexander Stubb, according to which the Greek government is exclusively responsible for delivering the essential reforms the country needs in order to secure liquidity by the end of the month.
Stubb had previously stated that Europeans will work hard to keep Greece in the Eurozone without hesitating to mention though that some of the European Finance Ministers have already started to lose patience with Greece.
He had also said: “In the last four or five years we have done everything in our power to keep Greece in the Eurozone but this is a two-way street.”
