Athens International Airport to Be Turned into Music Stage

AIAAthens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” will transform into a music stage on Sunday, June 21, allowing passengers and visitors to enjoy a magical musical journey to celebrate European Music Day.
From 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm, the Athens State Orchestra Woodwind Quintet will perform well known classics of the symphonic and operatic repertoire, which are harmoniously in line with dance tunes from Latin America and famous scores that have been heard in some of the most important moments of world cinema, at the departures level. Furthermore, the musical repertoire will also include works by Nikos Skalkotas and Manos Hadjidakis.
The Athens State Orchestra Woodwind Quintet performance at the airport will take place as part of the “Fly me to the Moon” program, a collaboration between Athens International Airport and the cultural platform elculture, which will transform AIA into a musical venue for the third year in a row.
The Athens State Orchestra Woodwind Quintet members are: Vaggelis Stathoulopoulos (flute), Christina Pantelidou (oboe), Spyros Mourikis (clarinet), Odysseas Bassios (faggotto) and Grigoris Assonitis (horn).
June 21 was established as the European Music Day in 1982, on the initiative of the then Minister of Culture of France, Jack Lang.
