U.S. Treasury Secretary: 'Athens Should Reach A Compromise With Creditors'

Jack Lew
U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew spoke with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras over the phone on Monday morning in an effort to urge the Greek government to move with reliable proposals toward an agreement with creditors, a Treasury official revealed.
After his phone conversation with Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem on Sunday over the Greek debt crisis and the efforts required in order to push Greece back to growth, Lew decided to call Tsipras and present his suggestions.
According to the Treasury’s spokesperson, during his discussion with the Greek Prime Minister, Lew “underscored the urgency of Greece making a serious move to reach a pragmatic compromise with its creditors.”
Mr. Lew also mentioned the necessity for Greece to present credible proposals that will lead to a deal with its lenders as quickly as possible.
Along the same lines, the U.S. Treasury Secretary noted: “Failure to reach an agreement would create immediate hardship for Greece and uncertainties for Europe and the global economy.”
