10 Problems Greece Faces Due to Capital Controls

capital-controls-atm-problems708Greece is living under the suffocating pace of capital controls for the last two days. The end of negotiations and the Greek referendum announcement have put everything on hold.
Due to the imposition of capital controls, Greece is facing numerous problems. Citizens are panicking and running to ATMs across the country in order to withdraw the 60 euros, as they are entitled. They are forming large queues outside gas stations, since they are afraid that the country will run out of fuel, even though oil refineries insist that they have sufficient reserves.
Furthermore, Greek citizens are emptying the supermarket shelves to prepare in case things do not go as planned. At the same time, trade and industry organizations are sounding the alarm, stressing that if the Greek banks remain closed for more than ten days, there will be no reserves in imported finished products and raw materials, which is expected to cause problems in the production process and lead to shortages.
Meanwhile, a shortage of small notes (5 euro and 10 euro bills) has been recorded in the market, thereby causing a problem for cashiers who have trouble giving change. Tourism in Greece has suffered a heavy blow since travel agents were forced to make numerous bookings and charter flights cancellations, while in several cases tourists are leaving their hotels without paying.
Ambulances and garbage trucks have stopped operating in many areas of the country, while police officers are working overtime since the increased bank withdrawals have resulted in an increase in robberies.
Furthermore, attempts have been made in order to control prescriptions and protect the medicines market, while the border protection is slowly weakening and many police officers are returning to their headquarters.
